The Kawaii Complex an Anticlimactic slice of life

Usually I don’t watch many slice of life anime because I find them to be a bit boring and stale, but some The Kawaii Complex is an execption just barely though.
The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior is a romance comedy tgat focuses around an interesting cast of characters throughout their time living together in the Kawai Complex the show has a decent sense of humor but ultimately makes no progress story wise.

While watching the show I genuinely enjoyed the overall experience and even found myself laughing at times, other times I was cringing. The show has decent animation that is a little suspect at times and seems inconsistent, the only real consistent animation in the show is when it’s in the chibi form and looks a bit crisper. While the animation isn’t the best I have to admit the lighting is on point execpt when you look at Kawaii- Senpai and Usa’s hair. The lighting on their hair gives it a greenish blue tint in some spots and makes them look like they have highlights in their hair and it’s a bit annoying.
The characters aren’t anything special and fit into a few categories. The main character  Usa is an average character, he’s cringe worthy at times and is so fucking thirsty that I almost want to bitch slap that nigga often times he’s seen fangirling over Ritsu. Outside of Usa it doesn’t get much better with the other characters either being perverts, drunks, anti social, or a little crazy. The oddest and most disturbing of the characters is Shiro, he’s somewhat of a “happy go lucky” character but certain things he says and does make you realize that he’s probably a pedophile.

Cops should’ve been arrested that man

A perfect example is when he says that a little girl has the potential to be a sadist, that remark is a bit disturbing considering the fact that it was about an elementary school student hell the character Mayumi even said ” She falls right into his strike zone, so he might go full pedo” which is extremely troubling. Of the entire cast Mayumi happens to be my favorite mainly because she’d kinda funny. Her character at times seems like one of the only level headed characters in the show. Her main downside is that her comedy can get stale but that’s a running problem with the show (she can be wifey lowkey)

Usa’s so luck he has Sayaka (left) & Mayumi (right) to get him out of sticky situations

The show doesn’t have the greatest selection of music and the music that was used was rather boring. The only good track in the show was the opening and even that was mediocore. For the most part the music was either goofy or just boring.

Final Verdict: Overall the Kawai Complex is a good watch and it has an interesting cast of characters who get some development but appear to stay the same. The show had its ups a d downs but the comedy made it bearable and some of the sexual innuendos cracked me up. The main downside of the show is the relationship between Ritsu and Usa, their relationship starts off badly but it does start to improve about halfway through the show. Unfortunately over the course of the last 3-4 episode their relationship takes 10 steps back just when it was making progress. At the end of the last episode we see that they’re on good terms but it’s so fucking anticlimactic that you’re just stuck there thinking “the fuck was that, that can’t be it”. Luckily there is at least 1 OVA and the manga goes past that point.

The Kawai Complex is best suited for fans of a slice of life anime but just about anyone can enjoy it. I’d give the show a 6/10 if the ending was bs and so anticlimactic I would’ve given it a higher rating. You can watch the show on Crunchyroll and for free on Hulu.

  1. This is show is a total slice of life. Despite labeled with such genre, I find the show to be a good entertainment. Though with slow progression, characters are effortlessly hilarious which I think, the strongest point in the series. They are like those “abnormally” comical people we meet along our way, depicted to the most funniest way to keep the audience stick to the whole show. I knew, Usa and Ritsu wouldn’t really progress but their interaction towards each other is quite fun to watch.

Thanks for sharing your views. Cheers! 🙂

    1. I agree the interactions were good and the characters did provide good entertainment but I wish the ending was a bit more satisfying, but I guess I’ll have to read the manga to get it all.

    1. As of right now I’m not really worried about making money, for now I’m just trying to hone my writing skills and grow some type of audience. I’ll probably monetize at some point though.
